Automatic Hippocampal Multimodal Assessment for Studies of Stroke and Small Vessel Disease
نویسندگان
چکیده
We propose a framework for assessing the hippocampi on stroke patients and studies of small vessel disease, where sclerosis, perivascular spaces and infarcts on this structure are common. It includes hippocampal and cavity segmentations, hippocampal shape modelling, feature characterisation and statistical analyses, all which have been particularly developed for assessing extreme abnormalities on this small brain structure on clinical MRI datasets. The hippocampal segmentation uses FSL tools. We apply this approach to 48 datasets from a study of mild stroke and assess its relevance on a larger dataset of 189 stroke patients. Using shape similarity metrics we show that the hippocampal shape models generated by our method are accurate on this dataset. We estimate the prevalence and distribution of the features analysed on the samples to discuss the usefulness of our approach.

The Findings of Transcranial Doppler Ultrasonography in Patients with Ischemic Stroke
Background: Stroke is a multifactorial disorder, the most common cause being arterial occlusion. Transcranial Doppler Ultrasonography (TCD) is a common non-invasive method available for assessment the arterial blood flow of the brain. Objective: Assessment the hemodynamic parameters of cerebral arteries, using TCD device in patients suffering ischemic stroke. Materials and Methods: This descr...
متن کاملAdvances in imaging 2007.
I maging continues to be a mainstay of stroke diagnosis, management, and investigation, and this was fully evident again in 2007. Stroke continues to command a substantial amount of attention from investigators from a wide variety of disciplines. A broad range of insights and innovations in imaging have occurred in the past year, and the space allotted here remains too small to capture the rang...
متن کاملHeritability for Stroke: Essential for Taking Family History
There are many well-established factors that influence the risk of stroke including blood pressure, diabetes, low socioeconomic status and smoking, however, the shared genetic resource in members of a family effect on stroke predisposition. Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have demonstrated evidence of a shared genetic source in stroke risk. This review considered the influence of family...
متن کاملMultimodal MRI in cerebral small vessel disease: its relationship with cognition and sensitivity to change over time.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Cerebral small vessel disease is the most common cause of vascular dementia. Interest in using MRI parameters as surrogate markers of disease to assess therapies is increasing. In patients with symptomatic sporadic small vessel disease, we determined which MRI parameters best correlated with cognitive function on cross-sectional analysis and which changed over a period of...
متن کاملAssociation of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Markers of Cerebrovascular Disease Burden and Cognition.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The present study sought to examine the association between the burden of cerebrovascular disease (CeVD) as assessed by multimodal magnetic resonance imaging and neurocognitive function. METHODS Cognitively impaired patients and controls were tested on an extensive neuropsychological battery and underwent multimodal brain magnetic resonance imaging. CeVD markers determi...
